GENESIS

Genesis marks a pivotal beginning in my artistic journey—the first full body of work centered around koi as symbolic and spiritual elements. In this collection, koi are more than ornamental fish; they serve as ethereal guides, protectors, and extensions of the inner self. Winding through portraits of Black subjects, they represent resilience, stillness, transformation, and the sacred relationship between the seen and the unseen.

Rendered in hyperreal detail and immersed in graphic, meditative color fields, each painting balances the physical and spiritual. The koi drift across skin and aura like memory, ancestry, or prayer—silent, powerful, and alive. Their presence softens the gravity of the figures, offering a sense of weightless strength and emotional surrender.

As the name suggests, Genesis is an origin—a declaration of a new visual language within my practice. While future bodies of work will move in new directions, this series remains a foundational exploration of spirit, identity, and the quiet power of being.
